Super Strides

Message from the SuperintendentDear Canutillo community,

It is Super Bowl weekend and talk about super, we have a lot of super things happening throughout the District. We welcome a new super principal, honor our super school counselors and our students’ recent performance in computer science and choir competitions make them nothing short of rising super stars.

Let us give our new Jose H. Damian Elementary School principal Dr. Ana Elisa Lee a warm welcome to the Canutillo ISD family on her first day at her new campus. She brings extended experience as an elementary school teacher and assistant principal. She was recently named Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association's 2022 Assistant Principal of the Year for Region 19 for her work at Tom Lea Elementary.

I know Dr. Lee will be a great addition to our leadership team and serve our students, staff, teachers and community well. Welcome Dr. Lee!

I would like to thank all our extraordinary counselors in honor of National School Counseling Week, Feb. 7-11. Our counselors have such an impact on our students. No matter what the situation, issues at home, school, helping with emotional and mental health and wellbeing, or helping them pave a path forward to college or careers; our students can always count on the dedicated group of premier counselors.

Congrats to our Northwest Early College High School computer science students. Four teams competed in the Texas Computer Education Association Super Area Programming Contest with two of the teams claiming first and second place in the area and will move on to represent Regions 15, 18 and 19 at the state competition in March. Additionally, all three student teams of “Digital Divas” placed first in their division for the Paso del Norte area. Way to go, Griffins!

Our Canutillo High School choir students are hitting all the right notes. 11 members received a first place division rating at this year's UIL Solo and Ensemble competition. Congratulations, Eagles!

COVID-19 Vaccination and Testing
We will continue to offer free rapid testing and vaccination opportunities to staff, students and family members.

COVID-19 antigen (rapid) and molecular (PCR) testing is offered at the Lone Star Building Rec Center Mondays thru Thursdays from 8:30 am - 11:30 am. This is a free service available to staff, students and family members. Please bring a copy of your insurance card or a Social Security Number if they do not have insurance information. This is a service provided by the outside entities Q Med and ChemGiant for our Canutillo ISD community and their families.

Vaccination clinics are still being offered at various campuses. To view upcoming clinic dates and locations, visit http://www.canutillo-isd.org/COVID19/vaccination_clinics.
