The season of giving kicked off today with the annual Coats for Kids program that once again brought much warmth and cheer to the children of Canutillo.

Canutillo ISD came together with the Knights of Columbus of St. Luke’s Catholic Church, Charlie Clark Nissan and Fort Bliss to provide 250 winter coats, stuffed animals, and more to children in the Canutillo community most in need.

"This charitable collaboration always brings lots of joy to our kids who need it the most,” said Executive Director of Student Support Services at Canutillo ISD, Dr. Monica Reyes. “In some cases, this program will provide the only coat a child will own this winter. We are grateful to our community partners and always look forward to this annual event to spread some holiday cheer to our kids and families."

Students from each campus visited the Grand Movie Theater on Fort Bliss where they were met with song and dance, food, games and fun activities. Fort Bliss soldiers visited with the kids and gave them interactive tours of an array of military vehicles.

Each child received a warm winter coat and toys to jump-start the holidays and even got a visit from the Nightmare Before Christmas’ Jack Skellington and Santa Claus.

The Coats for Kids program provides warmth for children in need during cold winter months. The goal of the program is to ensure that no child in North America goes without a coat during the winter season. Through the dedication of councils across the United States and Canada, hundreds of thousands of new winter coats have been distributed to children since program inception.
