HEB AwardsCanutillo Independent School District was named the Best Small School District in Texas at the 20th annual H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards for its commitment to student achievement through innovative programs, parent and community involvement and professional development opportunities for teachers and administrators.

“Receiving the recognition of the Best Small District in the entire state of Texas is an extraordinary honor,” Canutillo ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Pedro Galaviz said. “This distinction is a tribute to our entire district community of administrators, staff, teachers and students. They make us the best district through their service, dedication and willingness to continually raise the bar to achieve greatness.”

Canutillo ISD took the top spot out of finalists from across Texas and was determined the statewide winner by a panel of judges who visited the district, toured campuses and spoke with administration, staff, parents, and community members. The $50,000 grand prize will go towards benefiting the district.

H-E-B launched the Excellence in Education Awards program in cooperation with the Texas Association of School Administrators in 2002 as a positive way to support public education in Texas. It has become the largest monetary program for educators in the state, spotlighting best practices and celebrating the passion and creativity of Texas educators. Since the program’s inception, H-E-B has awarded more than $12 million in funding to benefit outstanding Texas public schools.
