Triple A RatingIt is another home run for Canutillo Independent School District. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) released the 2022 state accountability ratings for public schools across Texas with CISD earning its third consecutive Exemplary Performance A-Rating scoring an overall 90.

The District is the only public school district in the region to have earned a trio of top performance scores for the past annual TEA rating periods.

“Canutillo ISD continues to be the highest performing school district in the region and the Best Small School District in Texas,” said Superintendent Dr. Pedro Galaviz. “In spite of all the challenges of the pandemic and the roadblocks along the way, the children and teachers of Canutillo proved once again that high-quality learning is leading the way in every corner of the District.”

Additionally, this year several CISD campuses earned TEA distinction designations awarded for outstanding achievement in English Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Top 25% Comparative Academic Growth, Postsecondary Readiness, and Top 25% Closing the Gaps. The District managed to average success in all areas scoring either ‘A’ or ‘B’ in every domain.

The implementation of House Bill 22 in 2018, called for TEA to utilize performance reporting to compile data to develop and report meaningful accountability ratings to help Texas public schools meet the educational needs of all students.

The system gives schools an overall rating based on performance in three domains: Student Achievement, School Progress, and Closing the Gaps. This measures what students are learning in each grade and whether or not they are ready for the next grade. It also shows how well a school prepares their students for success after high school in college, the workforce, or the military.

Upon evaluation of the school district and campus performance, an overall performance rating of A - F is assigned.

“Considering we are coming out of the most difficult times in education, our students are performing at phenomenal levels and are to be commended,” said Associate Superintendent Dr. Debra Kerney. “Receiving the third ‘A,’ the distinction designations, and being named the Best Small School District in Texas by HEB, shows that we have top-notch educators who are truly making a difference in the lives of our students. Student outcomes in Canutillo ISD is something we should all be deeply proud of.”
