Canutillo ISD Appoints New Director of Student & Community Services

This is the image for the news article titled Canutillo ISD Appoints New Director of Student & Community ServicesLong-standing Canutillo ISD (CISD) School Counselor, Nicole Morales was recently promoted to Director of Student and Community Services with the district’s Student Support Services Department.

In her latest role at CISD, Morales will lead, support and oversee the planning and implementation of the school counseling, social work and prevention program services districtwide. The goal is to improve academics, attendance, behavior and social emotional support for all students.

Morales aims to develop a “whole child” approach to care for students in the areas of individual planning, responsive services, and social emotional learning, while collaborating with various departments and outside agencies to provide student support services that are cohesive in implementation and delivery.

“I am committed to the community and students I serve, and believe in the advocacy of the role of school counselors, social workers, and mental health supports in schools,” Morales said.

Morales earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and American Literature and Master’s in Education from The University of Texas at El Paso. She has over 17 years of experience in public education and has served as a middle school English Language Arts teacher with the El Paso Independent School District and was a middle and high school counselor with CISD for the past 10 years. She most recently served as the first CISD District Lead Counselor.

In addition, Morales continues to serve as publications chair of the Lone Star State School Counseling Association since 2018 and was a Texas on Course Fellow with the Texas Education Agency as part of the first cohort from 2017-18.
