18 Northwest Early College High School Students Receive National Recognition Awards
An ensemble of 18 students at Canutillo Independent School District’s Northwest Early College High School (NWECHS) earned the distinct achievement of receiving College Board National Recognition Awards for their high academic prowess in the classroom and outstanding performance on the PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10, and/or AP Exams.
The NWECHS student awardees include: Alexa Levario, Aliea Carbajal, Ambar Galaviz, Andrew Cabrera, Briana Gutierrez, Cesar Gomez-Guillen, Dafne Arreola, Damian Carranza, Daniel Flores, Eric Gutierrez, Hanna Ibarra, Isabella Bejarano, John Valenzuela, Jonathan Marquez, Lindsay Calvillo, Luis Ramos, Paola Landeros and Samantha Baez.
These students received one or more of the following awards:
- National African American Recognition Award
- National Hispanic Recognition Award
- National Indigenous Recognition Award
- National Rural and Small Town Recognition Award
“We are extremely proud of our students’ recognition of their academic excellence. These students have demonstrated a high level of overall academic success while also excelling on their PSAT/NMSQT and AP exams,” said NWECHS Principal, Jesica Arellano. This recognition can help this pool of talented students jump start a successful college career.”
Students who take the PSAT/NMSQT and are African American, Hispanic American or Latinx, Indigenous, attend school in a rural area, or are from a small town, are invited to apply for academic recognition as part of the College Board National Recognition Programs. These programs create pathways to college for students from underserved communities by awarding them academic honors and connecting them with universities across the country.
