They join the other 10 Canutillo ISD NBC teachers. The district is also eager to welcome a cohort of 20 additional teachers expected to earn their certification within the next year.

Newly NBC teachers along with Maintained NBC teachers were honored by the Texas National Board Coalition for Teaching (TXNBCT) at the 2nd annual virtual pinning ceremony on Thursday, May 5.

“We are very proud of our Maintained and new Nationally Board Certified teachers,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Pedro Galaviz. “They have made it their mission to meet the highest standards of their profession to assess their teaching technique and approach to continually grow, learn and improve in order to provide our students with optimal learning opportunities and enhance their educational experience.”

A National Board-Certified Teacher has achieved the highest professional credential in the field of teaching. The certification is a means to professional growth and improvement, and it is designed to promote excellence in teaching. Earning National Board Certification requires that teachers analyze their teaching practices and connect their content knowledge and pedagogical skills to positively improve student learning.

Through National Board Certification, teachers are recognized who effectively enhance student learning and demonstrate the high level of knowledge, skills, abilities and commitments reflected in the following Five Core Propositions:

Teachers are committed to students and their learning. Teachers know the subjects they teach and how to teach those subjects to students. Teachers are responsible for managing and monitoring student learning. Teachers think systematically about their practice and learn from experience. Teachers are members of learning communities.

With a National Board Certified Teacher: Students learn more. A decade of research shows that students of Board-certified teachers learn more than their peers without Board-certified teachers. Studies have also found that the positive impact of having a Board-certified teacher is even greater for minority and low-income students.

Teachers improve their practice. Board Certification allows teachers to hone their practice, showcase their talent in the classroom and demonstrate their dedication to their students and their profession.

Demonstrate a commitment to excellence. Schools with National Board Certified Teachers are characterized by better teacher morale and retention and increased community involvement. Districts and schools that want to drive student learning recognize the power of Board certification and are taking steps to empower and raise the status of accomplished teachers.

The virtual ceremony will include guest speakers: Peggy Brookins, National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) CEO and President; Montserrat Garibay, Senior Advisor for Labor Relations, Department of Education; and Rodrigo Rodriguez, NBCT, NBPTS Board Member and TXNBCT Director of Professional Learning.

TXNBCT is the state network for NBPTS. The mission of the TXNBCT is to increase the number of NBCTs in Texas based on the belief that every student deserves an accomplished teacher.
