The District was the recipient of a Texas Education Agency (TEA) Strong Foundations Math Framework Development Grant. This award will be used to create and implement a math framework that will provide guidance for the teaching and learning of mathematics for all k-12 students. The development of this framework will ensure that all students have a wide variety of options including pursuing Science, Technology, and other STEM careers.

The $100,000 grant provides technical assistance to support a comprehensive collective learning experience with District leaders and staff focused on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and what research says about how students learn math.

The goal of the framework is to help the District ensure all existing instructional priorities are aligned with research and to build a shared understanding and unified vision of success with teachers and staff around the “why” behind priorities to support learning acceleration.

“This grant will be a great support for us to continue to build a solid math foundation for our students based on how they best learn and process mathematics,” said Dr. Yirah Valverde from the academics team. “We will use this framework to evaluate and improve alignment of instructional materials and professional development supports, while also drawing clear connections to the new changes in the STAAR Redesign.”
