Message from Board President Coronado regarding mental health and wellness leave
CISD Prioritizes Employee Mental Health & Wellness
Posted on 06/30/2022
This is the image for the news article titled CISD Prioritizes Employee Mental Health & WellnessOn behalf of the entire Board of Trustees I want to thank you for your continued support and work. Your dedication to the children of Canutillo has made us a Premier District and — without a doubt — the Best Small School District in Texas.

To keep Canutillo moving forward, we all must work hard to handle challenges and embrace opportunities for growth. In that spirit, the Board of Trustees on Tuesday accepted a proposal from Administration to add four additional paid leave days for all employees. These days are designated as mental health and wellness days and they’re just one more initiative Canutillo ISD has taken to address the concerns our employees and community have brought up.

The four mental health and wellness days are on top of the already-approved local and state leave each employee is entitled to for the 2022-23 academic year. Employees can begin requesting these days starting July 1. Employees are asked to notify their supervisor of their intention to take a mental health and wellness day off at least 24 hours in advance so that proper planning can happen.

The Board is happy to support this initiative and thanks Dr. Galaviz and his administration for their continued leadership and foresight in addressing the holistic wellbeing of our employees. We know that the past two years have been trying ones for every member of our team. The challenges of the pandemic have had a lasting impact on our students and our families, and the topic of mental wellbeing keeps surfacing as a need. While our Human Resources Department continues to make access to mental health resources a priority, it is important to find other ways to mitigate potential mental burnout.

We also know that while the District continues to struggle to cope with funding shortages, we must do everything we can to meet the professional, economic and wellness needs of our employees. To that end, Trustees earlier this summer adopted a compensation plan that gave all eligible employees a 3 percent salary increase.

As you head into the well-deserved summer break (or for our teachers, the continued break), we want to thank you for your dedication and hard work. We hope you get to spend time with your loved ones and that you get the rest you need to come back to work recharged and ready to tackle the new academic year.

Thank you for being part of the Canutillo ISD Family! Have a great summer!

¡Viva Canutillo!
