This is the image for the news article titled CISD Seniors Serve as Student Advisors to the BoardStudents are always at the forefront at the Triple-A rated, Best Small District in Texas and their voice and input matter.

The voice of the student body will resound with the help of Leslie Reyes from Canutillo High School (CHS) and Aitiana Mondragon from Northwest Early College High School (NWECHS) who will speak on behalf of their peers for the 2022-23 school year.

The two seniors sit on the CISD board as the student advisors of the newly installed Student Advisory Council. The District is the first public independent school district in the state of Texas to represent the student voice in this capacity.

Throughout the school year, Reyes and Mondragon have the unique opportunity to share feedback, experiences, and perspectives on various issues affecting the District and actively discuss board agenda items through this board-led initiative.

“I believe since students are the reason we do everything we do, it is important that they have a voice and play an active role in important discussions and help guide decisions that impact their schools and the District as a whole,” said Board President Sergio Coronado. “These two young ladies will not only help the board and the District gain a student perspective but also prepare them to be civically engaged citizens when they graduate.”
