Serving children

Canutillo Community,

One of the great strengths of public education is that it brings together people with different experiences, perspectives and ideas, all united by a common purpose: serving children.

That was evident during a recent goal-setting workshop involving the Canutillo ISD Board of Trustees, Superintendent Dr. Josue Borrego and the district’s leadership team. Over the course of several hours, we engaged in thoughtful discussions about the future of our district, the challenges we face and the opportunities ahead.

As trustees, we do not always agree on every issue. Healthy discussion and differing viewpoints are an important part of good governance. However, one thing became very clear during our time together: every member of this board cares deeply about the students, families and employees of Canutillo ISD.

At the end of the day, we all want the same thing. We want our children to succeed. We want our employees to feel valued and supported. We want our taxpayers to know that their investment in our schools is being managed responsibly and effectively.

The goal-setting process provided an opportunity to move beyond individual issues and focus on the bigger picture. It challenged us to think about what success should look like for Canutillo ISD in the years ahead and how we can work together to achieve it.

I would like to thank our facilitators, former Dallas ISD Superintendent Dr. Michael Hinojosa and longtime educator and Dallas ISD Trustee Ben Mackey, for guiding us through this important process. Their experience and expertise helped keep us focused on the work at hand and encouraged meaningful conversations about the future of our district.

The goals we are developing will serve as a roadmap for the Board of Trustees and district administration. They will reflect our commitment to providing rigorous academic opportunities for students, maintaining fiscal responsibility, supporting our employees and creating a culture of accountability, pride and continuous improvement throughout the district.

Most importantly, these goals will help ensure that our decisions remain centered on what matters most: the success of our students.

While the work is not yet complete, I am encouraged by the spirit of collaboration and teamwork that emerged during this process. We will continue refining these goals in the coming weeks and months, always keeping the needs of our students, families and community at the forefront of our discussions.

I look forward to sharing the final product with our community. Until then, please know that your Board of Trustees remains committed to working together to build an even stronger future for Canutillo ISD and the children we are honored to serve.
