Childress Elementary turns 30

Thirty years ago today, Bill Childress Elementary School opened its doors for the first time, welcoming students and families from the thriving community of Vinton, Texas.

Since Aug. 14, 1996, BCE has been more than a school. It has been a place where thousands of students have learned, hundreds of teachers have taught and countless memories have been made. For three decades, generations of families have called BCE home, creating a legacy built on learning, relationships, pride and community.

The school is named after Bill Childress, a 1975 Canutillo High School graduate and longtime Canutillo ISD teacher who dedicated his life to serving the children and families of the community. His commitment to education lives on through a school that continues to embody the values he championed.

BCE has built a proud tradition of academic excellence, outstanding community engagement and unmatched school spirit. Its story is written in the accomplishments of its students, the dedication of its educators and the families who have supported it year after year.

And while we celebrate 30 years of history, the future of Bill Childress Elementary is just as exciting.

Growth continues to take shape around the campus as new families move into the Vinton area and beautiful new homes become part of the community. Canutillo ISD is proud to be a partner in that growth and to continue providing opportunities for the families who call Vinton and El Paso County home.

For 30 years, BCE has helped shape young lives and strengthen a community.
