Canutillo High School NJROTC celebrates leadership and legacy at annual awards banquet

With sharp salutes, proud families and a spirit of service in the air, Canutillo High School’s Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) lit up the evening of May 14, during its Annual Military Awards Banquet, a night dedicated to celebrating the achievements, discipline and heart of its exceptional cadets.

The banquet at CHS honored cadets who have gone above and beyond in leadership, academics, physical fitness and commitment to the NJROTC core values of honor, courage and commitment. It was a stirring evening filled with applause, reflection and recognition of the young men and women who represent the next generation of service-minded leaders.

“Our annual banquet is more than a celebration, it is a testament to the hard work, discipline and patriotism of our cadets,” said Omar Gonzalez, Senior Naval Science Instructor at CHS. “Having the support of these prestigious military organizations is not only an honor, but a powerful inspiration to our young leaders.”

The celebration welcomed an esteemed audience of cadets, their proud families and distinguished guests from several patriotic and military organizations, including:

• Military Order of the Purple Heart
• American Legion
• Military Order of the World Wars
• Daughters of the American Revolution
• Order of Daedalians
• Military Officers Association of America (MOAA)

These respected organizations each presented awards to cadets whose performance and character best exemplified service, sacrifice and excellence in leadership. Their participation added a deeply meaningful layer to the ceremony, highlighting the strong bond between Canutillo’s NJROTC and the broader military and veteran community.

The NJROTC program at CHS continues to stand as a pillar of leadership development, academic achievement and community engagement in the El Paso region. Events like this one reaffirm the program’s mission to develop leaders of character prepared to serve their nation and communities with pride and purpose.
