Canutillo ISD announces new Chief of Police

The Canutillo Independent School District today announced the appointment of Fernando R. Martinez as the Canutillo ISD Police Chief. Chief Martinez will join the district on Monday, April 7.
Martinez brings a wealth of experience in law enforcement to the District, having recently retired as the Chief Deputy from the Bexar County Constable Precinct 4 Office in the San Antonio area. His experience in law enforcement spans more than 25 years.
“We are excited to welcome Chief Martinez to the Canutillo ISD Family,” said Superintendent Dr. Pedro Galaviz. “His knowledge and experience will complement the work that our police department already does in creating safe and secure environments for our students, staff and community.”
Chief Martinez has a Master Peace Officer Certification and is a certified police officer instructor with a background in school safety, homeland security support and evidence management.
He will bring thorough knowledge in law enforcement fields such as criminal investigations, internal affairs, officer training and community engagement. His experience in policing spans from patrolling and juvenile operations to operation and leadership roles.
As Chief of Police, Martinez will lead all school safety efforts for the District, including the patrolling and securing of the campuses of the District and the oversight of the District’s certified peace officers and other security personnel.
