Canutillo ISD names Andrea Esparza as new principal of Canutillo Middle School

The Canutillo Independent School District has announced the appointment of Andrea Esparza as the new principal of Canutillo Middle School. Esparza will officially begin her new role on Jan. 1.

Esparza brings more than two decades of experience in public education, with a strong background in instructional leadership, campus operations and student-centered practices. She currently serves as principal of Canutillo Elementary School, where she has led curriculum implementation, supported teacher growth through coaching and feedback, analyzed student data to drive academic improvement and strengthened family engagement.

“We are excited to welcome Andrea Esparza to Canutillo Middle School,” said Interim Superintendent Dr. Jesica Arellano. “Her deep understanding of middle school learners, proven leadership within Canutillo ISD and commitment to academic excellence and community collaboration make her an outstanding choice to lead the campus.”

Esparza is no stranger to Canutillo Middle School. From 2019 to 2022, she served as assistant principal at the campus, supporting instructional programs, overseeing discipline and student services and helping lead the STEAM Academy. Her prior leadership experience also includes serving as assistant principal at Jose Alderete Middle School and dean of students at Northwest Early College High School.

Earlier in her career, Esparza worked in El Paso ISD as a testing coordinator, physical education and health teacher, department chair and varsity soccer coach at both the middle and high school levels. Her experience spans instruction, assessment, athletics, wellness initiatives and campus leadership.

Esparza holds a Master’s degree in Educational Administration and a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology with a minor in Education from the University of Texas at El Paso. She is certified as a Principal (EC–12), Generalist (4–8), Physical Education (PK–12), Health (EC–12) and is a T-TESS Appraiser and CPI Certified.

As principal of Canutillo Middle School, Esparza will focus on fostering a positive campus culture, supporting high-quality instruction, strengthening student supports and building strong partnerships with families and the community.

“I am honored to return to Canutillo Middle School in this new role,” Esparza said. “This campus holds a special place in my heart and I look forward to working alongside our dedicated staff, students and families to continue building a strong, supportive learning environment where every student can thrive.”
