Canutillo ISD names new principals

The Canutillo Independent School District Board of Trustees on Tuesday approved the appointment of two experienced educational leaders to principal positions in the upcoming 2026-27 school year. 

Trustees approved Superintendent Dr. Josue Borrego’s selection of Dr. Erika Pasieczny as principal of Alderete Middle School and Veronica Cervantes as principal at Davenport Elementary School. 

Both administrators bring extensive experience in instructional leadership, student achievement and campus improvement and will play key roles in advancing the district's mission of providing exceptional educational opportunities for all students.

"We are excited to welcome both Veronica Cervantes and Dr. Erika Pasieczny to their new leadership roles in Canutillo ISD," Superintendent Dr. Josue Borrego said. "Both leaders bring a proven record of improving student outcomes, supporting teachers and building strong school cultures.”

Borrego added: “These two outstanding educators will help us transition our school communities to their new Canutillo Bond-funded campuses that will be ready in the fall of 2027. They have the skills to create a culture of excellence that is needed to meet the expectations of our families.” 

Cervantes joins Deanna Davenport Elementary School after serving as an assistant principal in El Paso ISD, where she supervised instruction through classroom walkthroughs, teacher coaching and data analysis to support continuous improvement. She also led a campuswide Accountable Talk initiative designed to strengthen student writing performance and was selected as an Empower Fellow for the 2025-26 cohort.

Prior to her campus leadership role, Cervantes served as a secondary facilitator in Teaching and Learning, where she designed and delivered professional development for educators and oversaw the development and quality assurance of district assessments aligned to Texas standards. She also led literacy-focused initiatives to improve student achievement outcomes.

A veteran educator with more than 25 years of experience, Cervantes has served as a classroom teacher, instructional specialist and special education leader. She holds a master's degree in Educational Administration from Grand Canyon University and principal certification in Texas.

Dr. Pasieczny brings more than two decades of educational experience to Alderete Middle School, including service as a principal, assistant principal and classroom teacher across multiple school districts.

Most recently, she served as principal of Wiggs Middle School in El Paso ISD, where she focused on developing teacher and administrative leadership, strengthening schoolwide systems and enhancing instructional practices to support student success. During her tenure, she established a community resource center, expanded elective offerings and led efforts to redefine the school's vision, mission and branding.

Previously, Dr. Pasieczny served as principal of Ascher Silberstein Elementary School in Dallas ISD, where she earned recognition for building a strong campus culture, improving student outcomes and creating innovative programs, including an animal science lab and a grant-funded garden and chicken coop project. Under her leadership, the campus earned a "A" accountability rating and ranked among the district's top schools for staff and student climate.

Dr. Pasieczny holds a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Liberty University, a master's degree in education from Lamar University and a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of North Texas.

Cervantes and Dr. Pasieczny will officially assume their new roles this summer as they begin preparations for the start of the upcoming school year.
