Canutillo ISD to offer free dinners for kids

Canutillo ISD to offer free dinners for kids

Hey Canutillo! Dinner for kids is on us!

The Canutillo Independent School District will begin offering free dinners to all children in the community starting Monday, Aug. 4, as part of its participation in the federal Child and Adult Care Food Program.

Through funding and support from the Texas Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Canutillo ISD’s Child Nutrition Department will serve free, nutritious meals to any child between the ages of 1 and 18, regardless of enrollment in a district school. Children need not be enrolled in Canutillo schools to receive free dinners.

Meals will be served Monday through Friday from 3:15 p.m. to 4 p.m. at five participating campuses:

  • Childress Elementary, 7700 Cap Carter Rd.
  • Canutillo Elementary, 651 Canutillo Ave.
  • Davenport Elementary, 8401 Remington Dr.
  • Garcia Elementary, 6550 Westside Dr.
  • Damian Elementary, 6300 Strahan Rd.

“We’re proud and excited to expand our meal service in this way,” said Marco Macias, director of Child Nutrition Services for Canutillo ISD.

“This program gives all children in our community access to healthy dinners, which is a huge step toward building a stronger and healthier future.”

The dinners will be prepared and served by Canutillo ISD’s trained nutrition staff and will meet federal nutrition standards. The program is open to the public, meaning any child in the eligible age range can participate.
