Davenport student headed to nationals in art contest

A Davenport Elementary School student is advancing to the national stage after earning top honors in a statewide competition focused on drug awareness.

Sophia Sanchez, a student in Ms. Escobar’s class at Davenport Elementary, was named the state winner in the State Elks Association Drug Awareness Poster Contest. Her winning entry will now move on to compete at the national level.

As part of the next step in the process, Sophia’s family is completing required documentation to accompany her submission.

Representatives from the El Paso Elks Lodge 187 expressed excitement about Sophia’s accomplishment and her advancement to nationals.

National winners are expected to be announced in early July.

Sophia’s achievement highlights the creativity and awareness of young students addressing important issues through art. School leaders and community members are wishing her, her teacher and the Davenport Elementary community the best of luck in the national competition.
