Dr. Melendez-Carrillo Appointment Director of Bilingual Education & Instructional Professional Development

The Canutillo Independent School District today announced the appointment of Dr. Jessica Melendez-Carrillo to the position of Director of Bilingual Education & Instructional Professional Development.
Dr. Melendez-Carrillo will oversee bilingual program implementation, instructional alignment, compliance monitoring, and targeted professional development to support teachers and campus leaders. She will directly impact student outcomes by ensuring instructional practices are rigorous, research-based and responsive to the needs of our multilingual learners.
Superintendent Dr. Josue Borrego said he is confident Melendez-Carrillo will make an immediate impact in the role.
“Dr. Melendez-Carrillo will help us build internal capacity, improve instructional consistency, and better support our campuses in meeting district goals,” Dr. Borrego said. “Her leadership will also be instrumental in aligning our updated efforts in effective teaching and learning so that our classroom educators are armed with the tools and knowledge they need to be the most effective toward our students.”
Melendez-Carrillo has a long history of service in Canutillo ISD, having served as a teacher, instructional coordinator and assistant principal in our schools before becoming principal at Reyes Elementary School. She has led Reyes for the past several years, during which time the campus earned four A ratings.
The move is part of broader principal leadership adjustments designed to strengthen the district’s focus on student performance and academic improvement.
