Miguel Rivera appointed principal at Canutillo High School

The Canutillo Independent School District today announced that Miguel Rivera, an experienced educator and strategic administrator, will be the next principal of Canutillo High School, beginning in early October.
Superintendent Dr. Josue Borrego said Rivera brings a wealth of knowledge in high school administration, particularly in areas such as career readiness, master scheduling and instructional coaching.
“We are thrilled to have Mr. Rivera on board and to count on his more than 15 years of experience in school leadership and program transformation,” Borrego said. “I am confident that he will embrace the spirit of Canutillo High School and lead the school in a way that embraces students, builds up teachers and celebrates the community that has made this campus their home for decades.”
Rivera has spent his career in education in both the classroom and school administration. He has served as a classroom teacher and instructional coach at Socorro High School, an instructional officer for secondary schools in the Socorro Independent School District and an assistant principal at KEYS Academy, an alternative education campus.
Before joining Canutillo High School, Rivera served as an assistant principal and director for the Synergi STEM and P-TECH Advanced Academy at Montwood High School.
“I am beyond excited to join the proud Canutillo High School family,” Rivera said. “This school, this community, is one filled with not just long-lasting traditions, but also unlimited potential that I know we have the tools to reach. I am humbled by this opportunity to become an Eagle.”
Rivera grew up in El Paso and earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Williams College in Massachusetts and a master’s degree in education policy and management from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education.
I am confident that he will embrace the spirit of Canutillo High School and lead the school in a way that embraces students, builds up teachers and celebrates the community that has made this campus their home for decades.Dr. Josue BorregoSuperintendent
