NWECHS Earns Platinum Status in AP Honor Roll

Northwest is Platinum!
Northwest Early College High School has earned Platinum recognition on the 2025 Advanced Placement School Honor Roll, a distinction awarded by the College Board to campuses that demonstrate a strong commitment to college readiness and student achievement, according to a newly released progress report.
The Platinum designation represents the highest level of recognition on the AP School Honor Roll and reflects Northwest’s success across three key metrics that measure how well schools prepare students for postsecondary opportunities. Those metrics include college culture, college credit and college optimization.
“We are thrilled to have achieved this honor as yet another metric showing our community that Northwest Early College High School is one of the top public schools in Texas,” said Principal Frank Clark. “NWECHS and Canutillo ISD continue to make high-quality teaching and learning a priority, and this designation is the result of that commitment.”
Data in the report show that more than 100 percent of Northwest’s graduating Class of 2025 participated in at least one AP exam during their high school careers, exceeding the threshold required for Platinum status in college culture. The metric reflects the percentage of students who take an AP exam at any point in high school and is designed to encourage access to rigorous coursework without pressuring students to overload their schedules.
Northwest also met the Platinum criteria for college credit, with 70 percent of graduates earning a score of 3 or higher on at least one AP exam. A score of 3 or above is widely recognized by colleges and universities as an indicator of college-level mastery and often translates into college credit or advanced placement upon enrollment.
In addition, the school earned Platinum recognition in college optimization, which measures the percentage of students who took five or more AP exams during high school with at least one exam completed in ninth or 10th grade. The report notes that 78 percent of Northwest graduates met this benchmark, highlighting the school’s emphasis on early exposure to advanced coursework while maintaining a balanced academic experience.
To qualify for the AP School Honor Roll, schools must meet or exceed the required criteria for all three metrics at a given recognition level. Northwest met every Platinum benchmark, placing it among a select group of schools nationwide recognized for fostering a strong college-going culture and helping students translate academic rigor into tangible outcomes.
The report reflects data updated Sept. 17, 2025 and was run Jan. 9, 2026. Enrollment and participation data were verified through the College Board’s AP Registration and Ordering system by the campus AP coordinator.
Educators say the recognition is a testament to the work of students, teachers and staff who consistently challenge themselves while supporting one another. By encouraging students to take AP courses early and often, Northwest has created pathways for students to build confidence, earn college credit and reduce the time and cost required to complete a degree after high school.
The Platinum honor also underscores the mission of early college high schools to blend high school and college experiences in ways that expand access and opportunity. For Northwest students, that mission is reflected not only in AP success but also in a campus culture that prioritizes academic support, high expectations and meaningful preparation for life beyond graduation.
As Northwest celebrates its Platinum status, campus leaders say the focus remains on sustaining and expanding opportunities so future graduating classes can continue to reach the same high standard of excellence.
