NWECHS senior earns prestigious Hagan Scholarship

Northwest Early College High School senior Jacob Lozano has earned the Hagan Scholarship Foundation Scholarship, one of the most prestigious scholarships in the country awarding students up to $60,000 to cover college tuition costs.
Lozano, who will graduate this month, has been admitted to four Ivy League institutions — Harvard University, Yale University, University of Pennsylvania and Dartmouth College — and is expected to announce his final decision in the coming weeks. So far, he has earned more than $1 million in scholarships.
“Jacob continues to amaze us with how prolific he has been in securing funding for higher education. His drive and determination to succeed academically is part of the culture at NWECHS, which makes our school one of the highest performing schools in the state,” said NWECHS Principal Frank Clark. “I have very little doubt that wherever Jacob lands for college, he will continue to thrive and represent Canutillo at the highest level.”
The Hagan Scholarship is a nationwide, need-based merit award designed to help high-achieving students graduate college debt-free. The scholarship provides up to $7,500 per semester, along with additional support for study abroad, graduate school and financial literacy training.
Lozano’s selection marks the third consecutive year that a student from Northwest Early College High School has earned the highly competitive scholarship, underscoring the campus’ continued academic success.
Northwest Early College High School emphasizes rigorous academics and college readiness, allowing students to earn college credits while completing their high school education.
Lozano’s success in securing more than $1 million in scholarships places him among an elite group of students nationwide who have leveraged academic achievement, leadership and persistence to open doors to top-tier institutions.
The Hagan Scholarship, in particular, seeks students who demonstrate strong academic performance, financial need and a commitment to personal responsibility. Recipients are expected to maintain full-time enrollment and meet program requirements designed to promote long-term success.
For Lozano, the scholarship represents not only financial support but an opportunity to pursue higher education at one of the nation’s most prestigious universities without the burden of significant debt.
As he prepares to take the next step in his academic journey, Lozano’s achievements continue to bring recognition to Northwest Early College High School and the Canutillo ISD community.
