Breaking Ground

Breaking Ground

As we close one chapter of our bond program and begin another, I am filled with gratitude and excitement for what lies ahead in Canutillo ISD. Over the past two months, we have proudly hosted a series of groundbreaking ceremonies that highlight the promise of growth and progress for our schools. Each event has reminded us that the investment our community made in our children through the Canutillo Bond is already paying dividends.

We recently wrapped up six groundbreaking ceremonies at campuses that are not being rebuilt but will still receive tremendous renovations. These schools include Childress, Garcia, Damian, Reyes and Canutillo elementary schools along with our flagship, Canutillo High School. At each ceremony, students, staff and community members came together to celebrate the improvements that will keep these legacy campuses strong for years to come.

The upgrades at these schools are both necessary and transformative. Safety and security enhancements will ensure that students are learning in protected environments. Heating and cooling improvements will create comfortable classrooms year-round. Connectivity upgrades will expand digital learning opportunities. Aesthetic enhancements will provide a more inviting and modern look across our campuses. At Canutillo High School, the bond program is bringing even more, including expanded athletic facilities and upgrades to career and technical education spaces. These investments strengthen the pride we feel in our schools while giving students the resources they need to succeed.

These groundbreakings honored the legacy of our existing campuses, many of which have served our community for generations. They also honored the people who work in them every day. From teachers who inspire young minds to the custodians and cafeteria staff who keep our schools running, these renovations will make a real difference in their daily lives. I am grateful to every family and staff member who joined us to celebrate these important milestones.

Now, we turn to the next chapter in our bond journey. It is time to break ground on the major new construction projects that will shape the future of Canutillo ISD. These are the projects that our students and families will see rise from the ground, brick by brick, as new schools take shape. They represent the bold vision our community supported when they voted for the bond.

On Wednesday, Oct. 1, we will kick off this exciting new phase with the groundbreaking of the permanent campus for Northwest Early College High School. Our highest-performing school has built a reputation for preparing students for college and beyond, all while operating in temporary facilities. Despite the limitations, NWECHS has excelled. Now, thanks to the voters of Canutillo ISD, these students will finally have a permanent home with modern classrooms and cutting-edge resources that will better prepare them for the future.

This is only the beginning. In the coming months, we will hold groundbreaking ceremonies for Davenport Elementary School, as well as the new Canutillo and Alderete middle schools. Each of these projects reflects the commitment of our community to give our students the best possible education in safe, modern and inspiring environments.

We are committed to sharing every step of this journey with you. Our district will provide photos, updates and stories from these events so that everyone in Canutillo can take pride in being part of this historic moment. These are not just construction projects. They are celebrations of the future. They are promises fulfilled. They are opportunities for our students to thrive in facilities that match the excellence we expect from them.

This is truly an exciting time for Canutillo. Together, we are shaping the future of education for generations to come. Thank you for being part of this journey and for continuing to believe in the power of our schools and community.
