Canutillo ISD students have their heads in the clouds with multiple invitations to create artwork for La Nube STEAM Discovery Center in Downtown El Paso. Alan Diaz, a 4-year-old Montessori student at Garcia Elementary School, is the latest CISD student to be offered an opportunity to showcase their work at the new center.
Diaz was invited to participate in the creation of a 3D mural titled “Waves of Joy.” The project is a collaboration between La Nube and Beautiful Minds MALI - an organization that provides opportunities in the areas of art, engineering and science to adults and kids in general, but with a focus on individuals with different abilities in the community - aimed to provide children with various special needs the opportunity to contribute to a significant piece of art and express themselves artistically.
“Alan is among the youngest participants and his performance has been outstanding,” said Beautiful Minds MALI Executive Director, Dr. Magda S. Galloza. “He is a lovely child full of energy and with a great attitude towards trying new things. It has been wonderful having Alan as part of this special project. The revealing ceremony is expected to be scheduled towards the end of 2024.”
“Waves of Joy” is mural artwork that will be installed on the fourth floor at La Nube and will serve as inspiration to promote inclusivity, diversity and equality. The art piece will showcase the proficiency of individuals with different abilities with Diaz as one of the 40 participants with different abilities participating in the project.
Diaz, one of the youngest participants, worked alongside other students from across the region to bring this creative vision to life. His involvement in this project not only highlights his talent and enthusiasm for art, but also underscores the inclusive nature of this initiative, which celebrates the contributions of all children and adults, regardless of their abilities.
“Our entire district and campus community are very proud of Alan,” said GES Principal Maria Alarcon. “His capacity to channel his abilities artistically at only four years old is nothing short of amazing and we look forward to seeing the complete 3D mural at La Nube.”
