6 Canutillo High School band students earn top honors at UIL Solo and Ensemble Competition, 3 advance to state
The beat goes on for three Canutillo High School band students whose talent has advanced them to state level competition to perform among the best of the best student musicians in Texas.
The three are part of six CHS students who earned a Division I rating – the highest possible score – for their performance in the University Interscholastic League Regional Solo and Ensemble Competition.
“We are incredibly proud of this group of students for their outstanding performances,” District Music Administrator Andres Rodriguez said. “Their success is a testament to their hard work, talent and dedication to musical excellence. We are excited to see them shine at the state level.”
The students who achieved a Division 1 rating are:
- Evelyn Blair in Flute
- Leyla Vasquez in Clarinet
- Brandon Lara in Euphonium
- Oriana Mason in Clarinet
- Keila Salayandia in Alto Saxophone
- Diego Diaz in Tenor Saxophone
Blair, Vasquez and Lara earned high enough scores to qualify them to participate in the UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest, representing Canutillo ISD at the highest level for student musicians in Texas.
Canutillo ISD continues to reinforce its focus on fine arts instruction and providing students with opportunities to showcase their talent at the local, regional and state level.
“On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the entire Canutillo ISD community, I want to congratulate these six amazing students for representing our district at such a high level,” Superintendent Dr. Pedro Galaviz said. “This is proof that our continued prioritization of fine arts student programming is paying dividends.”
Congratulations to these outstanding students and best of luck as they prepare for the state competition!
