Canutillo ISD Budget Challenges and Staffing Reductions
Dear Canutillo ISD Families,
We want to share an important update regarding the financial challenges our district is facing and the difficult decisions we must make to ensure our long-term sustainability. Due to years of inadequate state funding, inflation and rising operational costs, Canutillo ISD is experiencing a budget deficit of $5.8 million.
Over the past two years, we have implemented multiple cost-saving measures, including administrative reductions and operational cutbacks, in an effort to avoid directly impacting our schools. Unfortunately, we have reached a point where further reductions are necessary, and this includes a Reduction in Force (RIF) that will affect some of our dedicated employees.
We understand that this news may be concerning. Please know that our priority remains the well-being and education of our students. We are committed to making these difficult decisions with as much transparency and sensitivity as possible. Our goal is to minimize disruptions to student learning while ensuring the financial stability of our district.
We understand that our staff members are a big part of our overall community, and as such you may have concern about their future in our District. Please be assured that we fully embrace that mentality, but unfortunately we were forced to take one of the most difficult decisions any school district must make. Our Human Resources Department will begin working with impacted staff to inform them of next steps and provide them with the resources they will need.
Canutillo ISD is strong because of its community. We ask for your continued support and engagement as we navigate these challenges. We will provide updates and opportunities for input as we move forward.
Thank you for being a valued part of the Canutillo ISD family. Together, we will overcome these challenges and continue building a bright future for our students.
Sincerely,
Dr. Pedro Galaviz
Superintendent
