Canutillo ISD Receives $20,000 Grant to Enhance STEM Education
Canutillo Independent School District is moving full STEM ahead in enhancing science, technology, engineering and mathematics education with a generous $20,000 grant from Pilot Company.
This funding is meant to directly benefit students in the Vinton community through its New Horizons campaign, in celebration of the opening of the new One9 Travel Center located at 581 Vinton and is part of Pilot’s continued commitment to uplifting the communities it serves.
The grant will be used to strengthen STEM education for students in grades 3–5 through the purchase of reusable LEGO SPIKE kits. These innovative tools will be incorporated into the regular school day enrichment period, providing students with engaging, hands-on learning experiences that build essential skills in problem solving, collaboration and computer coding.
“This generous investment from Pilot Company allows us to continue building innovative learning environments that inspire curiosity and prepare our students for future success,” said Dr. Pedro Galaviz, Superintendent of Canutillo ISD. “We are grateful for this partnership and excited about the new opportunities it will create for our students.”
By investing in high-quality STEM lessons, Canutillo ISD aims to foster a strong foundation in critical thinking and digital literacy, skills that are vital for success in the 21st-century workforce. This partnership with Pilot Company underscores a shared vision for educational excellence and community development.
Canutillo ISD thanks Pilot Company for its dedication to education and for helping expand opportunities that empower students and educators alike.
The station brings further economic development to the Village of Vinton, which has seen a significant home and business boom recently.
"We are excited to welcome the Vinton community to our new travel center," said Shannon Stone, director of store modernization at Pilot. "Whether fueling up, grabbing a bite to eat or enjoying a cup of the best coffee on the interstate, we look forward to being the pick-me-up you need on your daily commute or as you're just passing through."
