Canutillo ISD students to get new shoes for their ‘Happy Feet’

Students from Bill Childress, Deanna Davenport and Jose Damian elementary schools gathered on Friday for a charitable collaboration with a lot of “sole.”

More than 100 Canutillo ISD kids are stepping into a brighter holiday season, thanks to a generous donation from the Camino Real Rotary Club. Through the club’s initiative, Project Happy Feet, students at the three campuses were gifted a brand-new pair of sneakers.

“We thrive as a school district because of the amazing community partners that help us provide well-rounded services to our students and families,” said Superintendent Dr. Pedro Galaviz. “The work Project Happy Feet does goes a long way in making sure our students are ready to learn.”

This heartwarming effort is part of the Rotary Club’s mission to support the community by meeting essential needs and inspiring joy. With the multitude of pairs distributed, the project not only brought smiles to children’s faces but also affirmed the profound impact of collective kindness.

Camino Real Rotary Club members, volunteers, campus administrators and staff gathered at Jose Damian’s campus to distribute the sneakers, creating a holiday atmosphere filled with excitement and gratitude.

For many of these students, a new pair of sneakers means more than just footwear, it represents an opportunity to fully engage in physical activities, walk to school comfortably and participate in sports without hesitation.

The Camino Real Rotary Club has long been a pillar of community support in El Paso, consistently spearheading initiatives that allow every child the opportunity to lead a healthy and fulfilling life while being a beacon of compassion and service.

With “Project Happy Feet” paving the way, the future for Canutillo ISD students looks bright, and the journey ahead is bound to be filled with confident strides and endless possibilities.

“This generous donation goes a long way in ensuring our students’ well-being and success,” Dr. Galaviz said. “Healthy, happy students are better equipped to focus on their education and reach their potential.”
