Coach Brooks Among Top 5 Longest Tenured Head Football Coaches in Texas
Scott Brooks’ tenure as the head football coach for the Canutillo High School Eagles is not only legendary for the level of success he has been able to produce, it is also outstanding because of its longevity.
After 26 years at the helm of the boys in Orange and Blue, Brooks has been deemed as one of the Top 5 Longest Tenured Head Football Coaches in Texas by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine.
At No. 4 on the list, he is the only El Paso-area coach on the list.
“I guess that means I’m old,” the traditionally stoic Brooks said. “But in all honesty, being part of the Canutillo High School football program has been the honor of my career. That is why I chose to not only work here, but to become a member of this community and to have my own children be products of this amazing school and district.”
When Brooks took over the struggling Canutillo Program in the late 1990s, the school had only one 10-win season. Since then, Brooks has produced five, including a state semifinal appearance 10 years ago and back-to-back regional semifinals in 2021 and 2022.
Additionally, the Canutillo Eagles are constantly seen as district and bi-district championship contenders.
Superintendent Dr. Pedro Galaviz praised Brooks as one of the most consequential members of the Canutillo ISD community and said he is widely seen by students, parents and employees as a voice of reason in Canutillo.
“There is a reason why Coach has been here for so many years, and it is not just because he continues to produce winning teams with the amazing talent that exists in our schools,” Galalviz said. “He has been here all this time because he believes in Canutillo and Canutillo believes in him.”
Congratulations, Coach Brooks! Here’s to another 26 years!
