UTEP awards Canutillo High School surprise scholarships

More than two dozen Canutillo High School students have struck gold on their path to higher education with scholarships from The University of Texas at El Paso.

Staff from the UTEP Financial Aid Office surprised the seniors in their classrooms to announce they were one step closer to becoming a Miner.

“It was incredibly powerful to see the excitement in students’ faces as we walked into their classrooms, they were not expecting it at all,” said CHS counselor Megan Flores. “These scholarships are setting them up for success in their college career.”

 

Among the scholarship recipients is Xochitl Apodaca, who received an extra special surprise. She was awarded the UTEP Presidential Excellence Scholarship, which is a full-ride scholarship available to incoming freshmen at the top of their class, have exceptional test scores and grade point average along with proven leadership abilities and achievements.

Apodaca is excited for the opportunity this scholarship provides her to pursue a degree in Rehabilitation Sciences.

The following proud Eagles, received the coveted UTEP Excellence Scholarship, which will give them a head start in their college education. The scholarship was awarded in different amounts and is renewable for up to four years. Congratulations Eagles!
