Dear Canutillo Familia,
I hope you had a great spring break and that you’re rested and ready to take on the rest of the school year. I know many important things are happening in the next couple of months, so let’s roll up our sleeves and get to work!
Like you, I have been following with anticipation the announcement of the finalists for our annual Teacher of the Year and Auxiliary Employee of the Year contests. Every year, we honor the best of the best and this year is no exception. A total of 21 people are being honored for the work they do on behalf of our kids. Please help me congratulate them.
The Teacher of the Year Finalists are:
- Christopher Ambriz, Canutillo Elementary
- Rita Vasquez, Childress Elementary
- Nancy Quiz, Davenport Elementary
- Myla Dayriut, Damian Elementary
- Monica Cereceres, Reyes Elementary
- Jon Serrano, Garcia Elementary
- Diana Sanchez, Canutillo Middle
- Janet Amador, Alderete Middle
- Bruce Hoang, Canutillo High
- Victor Corral, Northwest Early College
The Auxiliary Employee of the Year Finalists are:
- Yazmin Ruiz, Canutillo Elementary
- Robert Hernandez, Childress Elementary
- Gerardo Amaya, Davenport Elementary
- Laura Gaytan, Damian Elementary
- Graciela Parra, Garcia Elementary
- Lynette Hamrick, Reyes Elementary
- Oscar Alvarado, Canutillo Middle
- Stephanie Erickson, Alderete Middle
- Karen Jacobo, Canutillo High

This year, the Board of Trustees approved new stipends that honor these individuals.Starting with this group of honorees, all campus Teacher of the Year and Auxiliary Employee of the Year recipients will get a $500 stipend and the District winners will receive an additional $1,000. District winners will be announced on April 28.
Of course, the Teacher of the Year winners will represent Canutillo at the Region 19 Teacher of the Year contest. Should they win there, the new stipend schedule would give them an additional $1,000. And, should they win the Texas Teacher of the Year title, they would receive an additional $2,000.
Good luck to all of them!
I want to remind the community that the Board of Trustees will have its regular monthly meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, in the CISD Boardroom. I invite all the community to join us as we discuss important issues impacting our schools. You can view our agenda here: https://meetings.boardbook.org/Public/Organization/864.
Hope to see you there!
¡Un abrazo fuerte!
