Perfecting Policy

Message from Board President Patsy Mendoza - Sept. 22

Posted on 09/22/2023

Dear Canutillo Familia,

Over the past several weeks, Canutillo ISD has undertaken a comprehensive Policy Review Exercise – an initiative that reflects our unwavering commitment to serving our students, parents and staff with excellence. This exercise was conducted in close collaboration with the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB), an organization renowned for its expertise in educational policy development and implementation. It’s also worth noting as a point of pride that the next president of TASB is our very own trustee, Armando Rodriguez.

The primary objective of this policy review was to ensure that our district's rules and regulations are not only aligned with the laws of the great state of Texas but also resonate deeply with the values and aspirations of our diverse Canutillo community. As we strive for continuous improvement, it is imperative that our policies reflect the evolving educational landscape and the unique needs of our students.

TASB, through its dedicated representatives, worked tirelessly with our district leadership, board members, and stakeholders to assess and fine-tune our existing policies. Their invaluable insights, vast experience, and unwavering dedication to educational excellence have been instrumental in this endeavor. The collaborative spirit and shared commitment to our students' well-being have been truly inspiring throughout this process.

We believe that a robust and well-informed policy framework is the cornerstone of a thriving educational institution. It not only provides clear guidelines for the conduct of our educators, staff and students but also establishes a foundation of trust and accountability within our community. Our goal, therefore, was not merely to revise policies for compliance but to enhance them for the betterment of our students and the entire Canutillo ISD family.

One of the key aspects of this exercise has been to streamline our policies to ensure they are easily accessible and understandable by all stakeholders. We understand that clarity and transparency are essential in building trust within our community. Therefore, we have made concerted efforts to simplify complex language, eliminate redundancies and make our policies more user-friendly.

Moreover, the policy review has given us the opportunity to incorporate best practices and innovative approaches to education. We have examined our policies through a lens of equity, diversity, and inclusion to ensure that every student, regardless of background or circumstance, has an equal opportunity to thrive within our district.

Throughout this process, we have actively sought input from our community members, parents, educators, and students. Your feedback has been invaluable, and we are deeply grateful for your active engagement in shaping the future of Canutillo ISD. We are committed to maintaining an open and collaborative dialogue as we move forward.

As we conclude this phase of policy refinement, I want to emphasize that this is just the beginning of our journey toward an even brighter future for our students. Our commitment to providing a world-class education, fostering inclusivity and nurturing the potential of each child remains unwavering.

In closing, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to all our stakeholders, the TASB representatives, our dedicated educators and staff, our visionary board members, and most importantly, our incredible students and their families. Together, we are creating a legacy of excellence that will shape the future of our community for generations to come.

Please continue to stay engaged, stay informed, and join us in our mission to empower every Canutillo student to achieve their highest potential. Together, we can build a brighter and more promising future for our beloved Canutillo ISD.

¡Un fuerte abrazo!
