Canutillo ISD 2026 School Board Election

The Canutillo ISD Board of Trustees consists of seven community members elected by voters across the District. Trustees serve without pay and are responsible for providing leadership and oversight on behalf of students, staff and taxpayers.

Board members serve staggered four-year terms, ensuring continuity in governance and leadership. Trustee elections are held every two years as part of the November general election cycle, alongside state and county elections.

ELECTION 

• Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026
  • Polls will open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. 
  • Polling locations will be posted by the El Paso County Elections Department. 
• Early In-Person Voting: Monday, Oct. 19 to Friday, Oct. 31, 2026
  • Early voting times and locations will be posted by the El Paso County Elections Department. 

The last day to register to vote for the Nov. 3 election is Monday, Oct. 5, 2026. You may download a postage-paid Voter Registration Application here.

Positions on the November 2026 Ballot

The following four positions will be on the Nov. 3, 2026, ballot: 

• Three full four-year terms (positions currently held by trustees Cindy Zuñiga, Breanne Barnes and Lucia Borrego)
• One unexpired, two-year term (position currently held by Trustee Sergio Martinez).

Filing Period

Note: Canutillo ISD may not be able to provide notary services. If your forms require notarization, please have them notarized before arriving.

Calendar

• First Day to File for a Place on the Ballot: Saturday July 18, 2026. However, because the District is not open on the weekends, prospective candidates may begin filing on Monday, July 20, 2026. 
• Deadline to File for a Place on the Ballot: Monday, Aug. 17, 2026. 
• Deadline to File a Declaration of Write In Candidacy is Friday, Aug. 21, 2026. (Note: A declaration of write-in candidacy must satisfy the same requirements as an application for a place on the ballot.)

All applications must be submitted in person to the Office of the Superintendent of the Canutillo Independent School District. The office is located at:

Note: The Texas Secretary of State’s Office requires the filing authority to be in possession of the application before the deadline.

FORMS 

• Appointment Of A Campaign Treasurer By A Candidate (Form CTA)
  Per the Texas Ethics Commission, all candidates must file Form CTA even if they do not intend to raise or spend any money for their campaign. Form CTA is required to be filed before a candidate files an application for a place on the ballot, raises or spends any money for their campaign, or announces their candidacy. • Application For A Place On The Ballot For A General Election For A City, School District Or Other Political Subdivision
• Campaign Finance Report (Form C/OH)
  All candidates are required to file semiannual reports using Form C/OH even if they have no campaign activity or were unsuccessful in the election. Annual filing due dates and schedules are available on the Texas Ethics Commission’s website. Forms should be filed with the Leander ISD Elections Coordinator, Cindy Anderson. To end your filing obligations, you must cease campaign activity and file a Final Report using Form C/OH and attach Form C/OH-FR (Designation of Final Report). The Designation of Final Report form can be found on the last page of Form C/OH. • Although it is not required, many candidates also file a Code of Fair Campaign Practices (Form CFCP).
• Request for Confidentiality for Candidates Under Texas Government Code
  Pursuant to Section 552.1175 of the Texas Government Code, eligible individuals may request that information from your candidate application which identifies your home address, home telephone number, emergency contact information, date of birth, social security number, or whether you have family members be restricted from public access. By completing and submitting this form to the filing authority with whom you filed your candidate application, you are requesting the confidentiality of the information as stated above. A photocopy of documentation showing that you are eligible for confidentiality must be attached to the written request. If you want to rescind this confidentiality request, you must do so in writing to the filing authority with whom you filed your candidate application.
