This is the image for the news article titled Message from Board President Patsy Mendoza - Sept. 29Dear Canutillo Familia,

One of the most crucial responsibilities entrusted to us, as elected officials, is the evaluation of our district's superintendent. We take this duty very seriously, and it is a process that requires careful consideration and thoughtful reflection.

I am pleased to report that, through our comprehensive evaluation, we have recognized the outstanding achievements of our District under Dr. Galaviz's leadership. Our academic performance continues to shine brightly, with Canutillo ISD maintaining its status as the highest-performing school district in the region. What's more, we are the only district in El Paso to have received three consecutive A ratings from the Texas Education Agency. These remarkable accomplishments are a testament to the dedication of our educators, staff, and students.

In addition to academic excellence, we have also witnessed increased attendance rates and notable success both inside and outside the classroom. Our Northwest Early College High School continues to garner national accolades, and our commitment to serving military-connected families has earned us state awards. The influx of grants to support after-school care for our children is a testament to our ongoing efforts to provide comprehensive support to our community. Furthermore, we recently implemented one of the most significant salary increases for employees in the history of our district, recognizing and valuing the hard work and dedication of our staff.

However, it is important to acknowledge that we face certain challenges as well. Our Board posed several challenges to Superintendent Galaviz, including finding cost-saving measures to offset budget deficits, planning for necessary facility upgrades, and exploring improved approaches to healthcare for our employees. These challenges are not taken lightly, and we are committed to working collaboratively to address them in a manner that benefits our students, staff, and community.

In the spirit of fairness and equity, it is worth noting that Dr. Galaviz received a salary increase that aligns with the increases provided to other district employees. This demonstrates our commitment to recognizing the contributions of all individuals who contribute to the success of Canutillo ISD.

Looking ahead, our Board leadership will be meeting with Dr. Galaviz in October to further define our expectations for the upcoming year. We believe that this ongoing dialogue will contribute to the continued growth and success of our district.

In closing, I want to express my gratitude to our entire Canutillo ISD community for your unwavering support and dedication to our students' success. Together, we can overcome challenges and celebrate our achievements. I am confident that the future holds even greater promise for our district, and I look forward to working hand in hand with all of you to ensure our students receive the best education possible.

Thank you for your commitment to Canutillo ISD.

¡Un fuerte abrazo!

Patricia Mendoza
