Message from the Superintendent Dear Canutillo Community,

Week 2 of school is in the books and I am happy to report that things are back to normal here in the Best Small School District in Texas and we are hitting all the bases. A quick scan of our social media pages will give you a glimpse into the high-level instruction happening in every corner of the District. I invite you to follow our District and campus social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to really get a first look at the great things happening in our schools. From what I hear, we’ll soon be on TikTok, too!

We have a couple of important school board meetings coming up where we will discuss the future of our District. On Aug. 15 and Aug. 22 we will discuss a potential bond referendum to address critical issues facing Canutillo ISD: safety & security, growth, equity and student programming. I invite you to come and learn about the proposal and make your voice heard. I fully understand some of the hesitation among some members of the public, but I also know the critical needs that impact our children. We want to be fully factual about this process and we hope to see you there.

To that end, I want to thank the Board of Trustees who this week took time from their busy schedules to tour campuses and speak with principals and teachers about the conditions of their schools. Their insight will help bring an additional layer of information to this consideration.

During the tour, trustees ran into members of an independent team currently assessing the safety and security protocols and systems in our district. The team will visit every school and building to determine any potential risk and provide recommendations to address improvements in our systems. This important assessment is at the forefront of our efforts to create the safest learning environment possible for our students and employees. As soon as the public recommendations are ready, we will share them with you.

I want to wish our Canutillo ISD teachers of the year good luck at this weekend’s Region 19 Teacher of the Year Contest. Ms. Alma Ramos from Reyes Elementary and Mr. Hector Juarez from Canutillo Middle have done a wonderful job representing us. I’m sure they’ll do great!

The District today got the official news that we are the only Region 19 District to be back-to-back-to-back A-rated district. That is awesome news. We'll share more next week. Congratulations to all teachers, staff and students on reaching this milestone.

Have a great weekend, Canutillo!
