Good Luck Teachers of the Year!

Message from the SuperintendentDear Canutillo community,

Welcome to a new and exciting school year!  We are thrilled to welcome back the 6,200 students to our school campuses.  We missed the bustling hallways filled with those beautiful smiles, the sound of laughter, and the minds hungry for knowledge. We are committed to working together to ensure that we provide our students with a premier education and opportunities that will prepare tomorrow’s best today.

Understanding that there is a lack of consensus in what is a fluid and dynamic situation, we will continue to rely heavily on medical expertise and science to show us the way. CISD will continue to deploy practices to ensure the safety of all students and staff.  Maintaining a safe environment is always a top priority.

With the stated complexities associated with the pandemic, it is imperative that we put our differences aside and move forward together. Let our basic humanity prevail during these anxious times. Allow love for your neighbor to rule the day.

Yesterday, August 5, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. the Texas Commissioner of Education issued new public health guidance regarding students who are close contacts to a lab-confirmed COVID19 positive individual.

  • Students who are considered to be a close contact (unvaccinated) with a lab-confirmed COVID-19 positive individual will be notified by the campus administration. Each case will be addressed as outlined in the new TEA Public Health Guidance that ensures parents are informed and can make an educated decision for the safety of their children.
  • Any child, whether vaccinated or unvaccinated, who show symptoms as determined by a health professional or tests positive for COVID-19, must quarantine or isolate respectfully.
  • If a student is considered a close contact (unvaccinated)/high-risk exposure and shows NO symptoms, other members of the family are not required to quarantine and other siblings in the same home may continue to attend school.

To help ensure our community’s youth and adults are vaccinated against COVID-19, we will host a series of vaccination clinics.

  • This Sunday, August 8, from 1 - 4 p.m. Texas Tech is hosting a vaccination event on their campus located at Medical Sciences Building II, 137 Rick Francis St. For questions, call 915-215-4300.
  • The University Medical Center Mobile Unit will be on our campuses offering free COVID-19 vaccines to students, staff and family members. Vaccines are available for those 12 years and up. Below is a list of dates.  Please visit our website for more information.
