New Principal at Alderete Middle School
Canutillo ISD Names Nidia Avila as Principal at Alderete Middle School

Nidia Avila The Canutillo Independent School District recently named Nidia Avila as Principal of Jose J. Alderete Middle School. Mrs. Avila is well known to the school community, and she has 14 years of experience as a professional educator, all with Canutillo ISD.

“I am excited to lead the extraordinary students and staff at Alderete Middle School, and I am grateful for this wonderful opportunity,” said Avila. “I look forward to working together with our teachers, students, families, and community to provide all our students a premier educational experience.”

Avila began her professional career as a 7th and 8th grade teacher at Alderete Middle School in 2006 and taught Algebra I through 2012. She continued to lead at Alderete as a Campus Instructional Coach through 2015. From 2015-2017, Avila served CISD as District Math Curriculum Coordinator, and she was most recently an Assistant Principal at Canutillo High School.

She was selected from a talented candidate pool in a competitive process that included input and participation from the staff and community.

"Alderete Middle has established itself as a high-performing campus with a reputation of pride and support for students, parents and staff,” Superintendent Dr. Pedro Galaviz said. “We believe Mrs. Avila fits our expectation for continued success, with her experience as an educational leader at that campus and everywhere she has served."

Avila holds a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies and earned a Master of Education - Instructional Specialist from The University of Texas at El Paso. She received her Principal Certification from the Education Service Center - Region 19.
